Following the launch of the Hyundai Exter, units have started to make their way to dealerships across the country. The micro-SUV comes in five variants and now, we have got the detailed images of the one-above-base S manual variant of the Exter. If you have plans to book the Exter S, you can check out this variant in the gallery below.

With the S variant, you get the H-shaped DRLs and halogen headlamps. The long gloss black grille, bumper and big skid plate are the same as the top-spec variant. Compared to the top-spec variant, it only misses out on the projector headlamps in the front.

In profile, you get 14-inch steel wheels with wheel covers which is a size smaller than the next-in-line SX variant. Here the turn indicators are mounted on the fender but if you opt for the AMT variant, you will get indicators mounted on the ORVMs. The C-pillar also gets a gloss black finish with this variant.

From the rear, the Exter S looks the same as the base-spec EX variant with the H-shaped element in the LED tail lamps, a massive rear bumper with a skid plate and a black strip connecting the tail lamps. This variant misses out on a shark fin antenna and a rear spoiler compared to the SX trim.

The overall design of the cabin is the same as the top-spec variants, with the S variant getting an all-black cabin and the diamond pattern on the dashboard. Its affordable nature is evident in the lack of any leather in the upholstery and it misses out on chrome coloured inside door handles as well as map lights.

The Exter gets the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay from this variant on, and the digital driver display is standard across all variants. For added convenience, it gets rear AC vents, rear power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs (folding function for AMT) and a rear 12V socket over the EX variant.

In terms of safety, the Exter S gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and central locking, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and manual day/night IRVM. Electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist and vehicle stability management (VSM) are standard for the AMT variant, but require a premium of Rs 24,000 for manual variants.

The Exter comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 83PS and 114Nm. This engine comes with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT, and there is the option of a CNG powertrain with the same engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. With the Exter S, you can choose between all three powertrain options.

Hyundai has priced the Exter between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10.10 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). It is a direct rival to the Tata Punch and Maruti Ignis, but can also be considered a rival to the Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, and Citroen C3.
